BAND and HANDBELLS

 2005-2006  5-8 Band

 ILS Advanced Band (6-8)

Our band program begins the 2nd 6 week period of the school year in 5th grade after a recorder introduction to band.  We have 5th-8th graders participating in the program.  The band plays for Lutheran Schools Week activities in March, annually giving a concert for Grandparent's Day that week.  The band also plays an annual PTL concert, featuring ensembles that receive superior ratings at music festival and concert pieces for the group as a whole.

Our band participates in the Association of Texas Small Schools Band competition in the fall.  This is a competition that embraces both the public and private school sector.  The students compete against 1A, 2A, and 3A level public schools and private/parochial middle schools in Region 18.  This past school year 4 of the students who tried out were chosen for the 2 bands of ATSSB.  Chosen for ATSSB concert band were: Colton Schimank, tuba; Marissa Jenke, flute; Hannah Davis, flute;  and chosen for top chair in symphonic band was Laura Kate Placke, bass clarinet.

At Concordia Middle Schools Music Festival ILS Advanced Band, ILS 5-8 band, and the Hnanbell Choir were awarded Superior ratings.  Additionally, the sutdents performed solos and ensembles at the festival and were awarded Superior and Excellent rating for their work
